About
Jørn Utzon's opera house stands on a granite podium on Bennelong Point. Every roof shell is cut from one sphere of 75.2 m radius: four over the Concert Hall on the west, four over the Joan Sutherland Theatre on the east and two over the Bennelong restaurant beside the Monumental Steps. Glass walls close the mouths of the shells, and small side shells close the gaps where two shells stand back to back.
